The moon is not just a mysterious silvery object to contemplate on romantic moonlit evenings. It is a very strange celestial object in scientific terms. For starters, it is way too big, much larger than the average satellites in the solar system.
At nearly one quarter the size of the earth it should not even exist. How could our planet capture such a huge object in its gravity field in the first place?
Our lunar orb, which lights up the night sky once a month raises many profound questions and unsolved mysteries:

In fact, the moon is so unique that Robin Brett, a NASA scientist is quoted as stating, “It seems easier to explain the non-existence of the Moon than its existence.”
Why is our moon such a scientific anomaly?
It has a weird orbit that’s so unique scientists have not been able to find it anywhere else in the solar system. All other moons in our solar system orbit their planets around the equator. Our moon does not, it orbits Earth at an inclination of five degrees.
The moon does so at precise altitude, course, incline and speed, allowing it to “function” orbit the planet Earth in a stable manner. However, the Moon should not be where it is currently. Why?
In fact it does not orbit around the earth like other satellites, both orbit each other around a point between them. That point is called a barycenter, which is located inside the earth at least for now it is. If it changes, the moon may well be called a planet in the future.
Moreover, the composition of our moon is similar to that of Earth, unlike most other moons, which are different from their parent planets. However, there are geological anomalies, like the craters, as well.
Craters are thought to be the result of meteorite and asteroid impacts, meaning there should be a certain proportion between their depth and width. Instead many wider craters have similar depths to significantly narrower craters, with some even appearing convex. How would a meteor smashing into the moon leave a bump instead of a depression?
Furthermore, when astronauts attempted to drill into the craters, they were barely able to penetrate the surface, discovering processed metals like brass, mica, and pure titanium. These elements have NEVER been found to occur naturally. Does not this indicate that it is not a natural celestial object but an artificial one?
NASA recognizes the unexplained lights, noted above, and accepts them, so much so that they gave them a name. The lunar lights are called transient lunar phenomena; however NASA offers no explanation for their cause.
The same is true for ‘moonquakes’, they too are acknowledged but space agency scientists have no explanation for them either. Earthquakes are attributed to the shifting geological plates, however, the moon has no such correspond geological features.
It appears that in order for Life to exist on earth the Moon must be exactly where it is and what it is as well. With the moon's considerable mass, its gravity stabilizes the "wobble" in Earth's axis, moderating our seasonal shifts.
In addition, the moon causes marine tides on Earth. Tide pools are associated with the early emergence of life on our planet. Then we have the following amazing facts to add to the mix.
The sun is 400 times farther from the earth than the lunar orb is. It is also exactly 400 times larger in size. This is why the moon precisely covers the sun causing a lunar eclipse. The above enigmas combined raise a very interesting theory and ongoing debate. That accuracy hardly seems like it could be the outcome of random events.
The moon may be a hollow, artificial object towed into place by an advanced, extraterrestrial civilization. Several Russian scientists first offered this theory, which has not been falsified nor scientifically rebutted to date.
We have so much more to be mulling over as we watch that strange, silvery object, go through its monthly phases on the way to the next full moon.
